Why I'm building Timeless

My brain is a lot messier than folders and lists, so I'm building a canvas for the way visual learners think.

Hello,

I'm Santiago. I'm a software engineer, and my biggest passion in life is creating and building things. Software and programming are just the medium through which I express that passion.

My brain is messier than folders

Lately, as an engineer in big tech we spend most of our days switching between note apps, Obsidian, Notion, internal tools, etc. Funny enough, maybe you would assume that we would be switching between IDEs or open terminals with Claude Code or Codex, but the reality is much different.

This led me to struggle with different note apps, and believe me, most of them work on folders and lists, and the way of handling images or PDFs is barely flexible. You have to switch between pages to see the image, then switch back to the note page to add what you are thinking. This produces a lot of mental burden for me.

At the same time, my social media feed has been leading me to a lot of builders and designers. I keep finding things and thinking: "Wow, that is really amazing", or "look at that color palette". So I caught myself thinking that it would be great to have a place to throw all of these references and ideas in and be able to see them all at once without the need of switching tabs or something, in a very similar way to how I think they're placed in my mind.

A canvas for the way visual learners think

That's why I started building Timeless: an open canvas for your Mac where notes, stickies, images, PDFs, videos and links sit side by side.

Lay ideas out where you can see them, then open any card to write, write a quick phrase I want to remember, or UI references or even some of the cool photos I see on social media.

Why I'm doing it myself

I've been working in big tech for almost two years, and I've learned a lot about how to build software. I've also realized I want to build my own products, and I also wanted an excuse to learn Swift and I wanted to learn the complete process of shipping a product. My dream is to create products and a way of doing this is through a startup. I see this process as a beta stage or a practicing environment for some of the things I'll face in the future. Don't get me wrong, this does not mean that Timeless is not done correctly or with enough attention to detail. On the contrary, I've put so much love and time into Timeless for it to be the best product possible and I'll continue to do that.

I wanted to build something I'd use every day, and I think a lot of people like me would love to use it too. Not only useful, but beautiful, which is why I'm putting so much effort into the design and the details.

What's next

Timeless isn't out yet. If this sounds like you, join the waitlist and you'll hear the day it's ready.
